Psychiatric Survivors - Lori Daniels

"I Can Barely Breath."

“Adding to my nightmare the past year, the discoveries I’ve made rocked my whole world to its core. To my utter shock and dismay, I low believe that the drugs made by big phama, that I was forced to take by the psychiatric industry, for 38 years…have no scientific evidence for treatment of any “mental illness". Contrary to common belief, the “chemical imbalance” theory was debunked in the 1980's, just as I was told I had one. The scientific community still has no knowledge of the causes of mental illness. I had never had a chemical imbalance, well I certainly did after those drugs. I do now because of those drugs. ~ Lori Daniels

Dear friend,

I recently started a podcast Series called “Psychiatric Survivors” with the goal to share stories of individuals who have navigated the current mental health system and openly discuss their experiences.

This journey can be lonely and very isolating.

Hoping that people can see themselves in these stories and know they’re not alone. But also it is a way to acknowledge the suffering and harm people endure in the name of psychiatric help.

I met Lori Daniels on X/Twitter. Her story is incredibly powerful and touching. She is extremely eloquent in expressing her insight and wisdom about the current paradigm of the conventional mental health system.

Lori has been through it all…

She was 17 years old when she first had contact with the mental health system. In those tumultuous teen years she felt alone, depressed, and had thought of suicide. She didn’t know how to express how she felt.

Like most of us at 17, she was unable to process some of challenging things happen in her childhood, but nothing that warranted or prepared her for the types of treatments she received over the years in the psychiatric system.

In an article written in “Mad in America” she states,

“I tried to kill myself, desperate to escape the pain in February, 1984, at age 17. I survived. I was punished for the attempt, for the rest of my life.”

Lori Daniels was born in Kansas City, Kansas USA in 1966. At 58, she is currently living in the San Diego County, CA. She is disabled with brain damage from long-term subjection to psychotropic drugs for nearly 40 years.

She managed to taper herself off of multiple psychiatric drugs and has been on a healing journey. However, she continues to struggle with ongoing distressing symptoms due to her long history of exposure to psych drugs as well as ECT.

This video is the first part of Lori’s story.

Lori and I plan to record several episodes to go through her entire experience through multiple drug trials, hospitalizations, ECT, and being institutionalized.

Please forward this information with anyone who you believe would benefit.

Feel free to leave me your questions, comments, and feedback below. Thank you for taking the time to visit here.

Until next time, we continue in solidarity.
